What do you want to do before you die?

In 2016, I had made many mistakes. If I had a time machine, I would go back and do them right. But in reality, you can’t. The only thing you can do is to move forward. Learn from those mistakes and pray that you won’t make it again.

A wise man will learn from their mistakes and a wiser man will learn from other people’s mistake. For me, I have to learn it myself before it sticks.

So, what’s with 2016. Let’s start with the good . I moved to Hong Kong. They city where my parents were from. So I guess you can call HK my “mother city”. I can speak Cantonese, so I don’t have any language barrier. I had a lot less “living issues” compared to Japan.  I visited many places in China such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing. Shanghai, and Hangzhou.. I saw one of the world’s wonders. (The Great Wall of China). I  bungee-jumped off  the world’s highest bungee jump.

2016 wasn’t only filled with goods, there were some bad. I came back home for sick-leave. It was my first time ever that my eczema became this bad. I think it was worse than what I had as a kid. I guess Hong Kong environment may not be right for me. I went to the doctor, and the first thing he told me was “Hong Kong isn’t for you. Go back to Canada!”. Maybe that is true. There can be several factors that caused my eczema to flare up like this. It was also my first time where I limped because of my skin. It was so dry that it cracked.  Standing up hurt. I was walking funny and slowly. I realized what I will become when I am older. I finally learnt that health is the MOST IMPORTANT. We take health for granted. Any millionaire will pay any amount to get healthy or a few more years in life. So health is priceless. I need to keep healthy. My new year resolution. This time I mean it!

2017 started with me being sick, in Hong Kong, I was under medical care, but it didn’t seem like I was healing. Coming back home, I made visible progress. I wonder if it was the environment in HK. Who knows? I guess some thing aren’t meant to be.

Today, I got asked a question “What is your ultimate goal in life?”. If I got asked that question a few years ago, my response would be totally different from today. I realize as you grow older, you go through different chapters in life, wanting different things. The life experiences you gained shapes and changes your life goal.  So what is my ultimate goal? I don’t have the slightest idea. But, I do know that this year will be an end to a chapter. With a new chapter starting, a new goal emerges. We live life one chapter at a time, slowly going toward your ultimate goal. The most important thing is to be happy every day and not to live life with regrets. Our paths may have cross-roads, and tough decisions needs to be made. At the end of the day, no matter what we choose, mistake or not, for better or for worse, we can not go backwards. So keep your spirit high because there will be bumps on the path ahead. Cherish every moment, and enjoy the journey ahead. Life is full of surprises.
